PS 340 - The Sixth Avenue Elementary School

Welcome to the PS 340 Parent Teachers Association website!

PS 340 is something special! Every child here is welcomed with open arms, listened to, and made to feel right at home. Our school is bursting with extraordinary teachers and staff, an inspiring and talented principal, and families who give their all for our kids.

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is all about building community and creating a strong sense of belonging—connecting students, staff, and families alike. We make it happen through awesome events like movie nights, Fall Fest, skating at Chelsea Piers, and our ever-popular book fairs. We also give back in a big way with clothing drives for Room to Grow, food drives for City Harvest, and more. Oh, and we handle class pictures, too!

We’re also busy fundraising to bring extra magic to PS 340—covering programs and opportunities that the NYC Department of Education can’t. Thanks to the PTA, our kids get to dive into Take Two film production classes, unleash their creativity in the Studio in the School art program, and move to the beat with the National Dance Institute workshop. Plus, we offer workshops for kids and grown-ups alike, from art to internet safety.

Here’s the best part: every PS 340 parent, guardian, and teacher is automatically a PTA member! We hold monthly general membership meetings where everyone’s invited to catch up on what’s new, learn about our programs, and hear updates straight from our principal and parent coordinator.

PS 340 Ambassadors 

In 2021, we started the PS 340 Ambassadors initiative, a group of parents who welcome prospective and new families to our school and community.  The PS 340 Ambassadors act as parent resources for prospective and new families at school open houses, orientations, and can provide general information about the school community.
